There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that highlights many amenities in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
