There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, contains 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
