There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, highlights 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
